The owner of this small pre-war house on a busy street longed for a large  space to retreat to. The rear common room provided a large light and airy space with direct access to the back yard. While the remodeled kitchen remained about the same size as the original

kitchen,  it overlooked the common space and  shared the openness and  light of the addition.
